Hinikayat ng mga provincial bus operator si Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. na alisin na ang pinaiiral na suspension sa fare hike na inaprubahan ng Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) noong Marso.
Ayon sa statement ng Victory Liner at ng Provincial Bus Operators Association of the Philippines, ang presyo ng krudo ay umabot na umano sa lebel na hindi na makayanan ng kanilang operasyon.
Paliwanag pa ng grupo, ang konsumo sa krudo ay kumakatawan sa 45% hanggang 60% ng operating costs, pero ang pasahe sa bus “have not kept pace with the actual cost of providing safe and reliable transportation.”
Inungkat din ng grupo na ang mga bus operator ay hindi nagpapataw ng fuel surcharges, pero inoobliga na i-modernize ang kanilang mga unit bukod pa sa pinoproblema rin nila ngayon ang wage increase sa kanilang mga manggagawa.
“No industry can survive when its regulated revenue is lower than the actual cost of delivering service,” paliwanag ng grupo sa inisyung statement nitong Martes.
“We are not asking the government for ayuda. We are not asking taxpayers to carry our businesses. We are asking for a fair and sustainable fare that reflects the real cost of operating public transportation,” giit pa nila.
Nilinaw naman ng grupo na hindi sila nagbabanta ng tigil-pasada pero inaabisuhan lang nila ang gobyerno na magiging imposible na ang pagpasada kung bangkarote na ang mga bus firm.
“This is a notice that operations may soon become impossible,” babala nila.
“If responsible operators are pushed to insolvency, commuters will ultimately suffer: fewer buses, fewer trips, longer waiting times, and the loss of vital connections between cities and provinces. Thousands of drivers, conductors, mechanics, and support personnel will also face the loss of their livelihoods,” ayon pa sa grupo na nagsumite rin ng kanilang liham kay Executive Secretary Ralph Recto.
